Matt Borland, Director of Motorsport Competition Programs for Cadillac, was searching for someone capable of jumping into the driver's seat to run virtual laps for the Cadillac Formula 1 Team. He reached out to Greg Price, a Design & Manufacturing Manager at GM Motorsports, whose 14-year-old son was an exceptional candidate. Greg's son, Aiden Price, quickly proved to be a natural fit for the program.
Aiden Price Steps Into GM's Driver-in-the-Loop Simulator
Aiden was far from inexperienced when he caught Matt Borland's attention. Having already achieved victories in micro sprints and on the iRacing sim-racing platform, he had established a strong reputation in virtual racing. The next logical step was bringing his skills to the Formula 1 racing team.
An evaluation in front of the Cadillac Formula 1 team confirmed his talent, and the rest is history. The team immediately recognized Aiden's innate skill behind the wheel of a simulator. Reflecting on his journey, Aiden noted, "I've learned a huge amount from the whole team. Simon and I will do sessions where we overlap our data and find places where I can improve."
His father, Greg, takes immense pride in his progress. "I've always worked with him on setting up cars," Greg shared. "He's very in tune with everything we do on our race cars, and in iRacing, he's had a little side-hustle creating setups and selling them to other drivers online." This work is critical to Cadillac Formula 1 racing operations. Simulators allow engineers to replicate every fine detail of a race car's setup, directly shaping how physical vehicles are built or refined. Everything from suspension systems to minor performance adjustments can be thoroughly tested in the virtual environment.
Professional drivers like Simon Pagenaud and Pietro Fittipaldi directly benefit from Greg and Aiden's contributions. Through this father-son team, Cadillac can expand its engineering reach and make rapid performance adjustments. As Aiden explained, "All these different groups at GM come together and correlate between NASCAR, INDYCAR, LMDh, and F1. Everything that we do all ties together." The future looks exceptionally bright for Greg, Aiden, and the entire Cadillac racing program.
