TWG Motorsports and General Motors recently announced the formation of GM Performance Power Units LLC, a new company that aims to put Cadillac on the path of building Formula 1 vehicles and power units by the end of the decade. Industry veteran Russ O'Blenes has been named CEO of the new company.

O'Blenes has over 30 years of motor racing engineering experience and is currently the GM Motorsports Propulsion and Performance team director. His career includes powertrain development for many championship racing teams and award-winning production vehicles. He also led the development of the GM Performance and Racing Center in Pontiac, Michigan, and the commercialization of GM's eCrate initiative for performance car builders.

Development and testing of the company's Formula 1 prototype engine technology are already underway, and plans are in place to open a dedicated facility, Performance Power Units LLC, in 2026. The Cadillac Formula 1 Team will be using Ferrari power units until the new GM units are approved for racing use.
