TWG Motorsports and GM receive formal approval for Cadillac Formula 1 team

The Cadillac Formula 1 Team has received final approval to join the Formula 1 grid in 2026. The team, who TWG Motorsports and General Motors back, will join the existing 10 teams in the grid.

TWG Motorsports and General Motors have been working hard for the past year to get a Cadillac team into Formula 1. In March 2025, the team was confirmed to have met all of its requirements in what FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem called a "milestone." President Sulayem has stated that the addition of the Cadillac team aligns with the new FIA 2026 regulations. He hopes that the addition of this 11th team to the sport will inspire future competitors and fans.

The announcement comes after several new appointments were made in recent months, including former Marussia Sporting Director Graeme Lowdon being named Team Principal and industry veteran Russ O'Blenes becoming CEO of TWG GM Performance Power Units.

Cadillac currently has bases throughout the United States, including one in Silverstone, England. Since Cadillac's bid to join the Formula 1 grid was first announced, it has assembled a team of over 200 people who have been working hard on aerodynamics and component development.

Even with their progress, the Cadillac team clearly has a lot of work ahead of them, but they hope their inclusion in Formula 1 will reinvigorate the sport.
