Cadillac and MycoWorks Collaborate on New Bio-based Material

Cadillac is doing its part to help the environment while providing its customers with high-quality materials. Along with MycoWorks, a biotechnological company based in California, Cadillac is developing a new material that can replace leather.

Known as Fine Mycelium, this renewable resource can maintain the luxury of a vehicle's interior. It is made from the root structure of mushrooms, along with other bio-based ingredients. Other materials used include water, repurposed sawdust, and wheat bran. In addition to providing sophistication, Fine Mycelium is intended to be stronger and may be lighter in the future, which can boost efficiency.

Cadillac's partnership with MycoWorks and the development of Fine Mycelium is a first in the automotive industry. It once again proves how Cadillac is at the leading edge of new tech and innovation while still providing the luxury associated with this brand.

The Cadillac material and finishes design team is exploring all of the uses of this cutting-edge resource. Cadillac is offering a cardholder accessory made from Fine Mycelium to demonstrate what this material can do.
