The 2021 Cadillac XT6 was named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, marking the second year in a row that the luxury mid-size SUV received IIHS’s highest safety accolade. This shows that Cadillac’s commitment to safety has paid off, evidenced by the fact that the 2021 XT6 also received the highest five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The IIHS evaluates a vehicle’s safety by putting it through rigorous testing, and the vehicle must receive the highest grade in each crash test to qualify as a Top Safety Pick+. The 2021 XT6 received the highest rating of Good in all specific crashworthiness evaluations and received the highest grade of Superior for almost all of its standard and optional crash mitigation and avoidance systems. This includes both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention technologies.
The 2020 XT6 also received the highest safety award. However, the IIHS updated its safety standards mid-way through that year. Cadillac improved the XT6’s side-curtain airbags and passenger protection cell to ensure it still qualified even with the new requirements.
The basic headlights were one of the only areas where the 2021 XT6 didn’t receive the highest safety rating. The standard headlights were only rated as average, but the XT6’s optional Premium and Platinum Headlamp Systems received much higher ratings.
The XT6 includes a wide range of standard and optional safety features designed to protect you and your passengers on the road. Daytime running lights, Lane-Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Front Pedestrian Braking, and Forward Collision Alert are just some of the safety technologies that come standard on the two-wheel-drive and all-wheel drive XT6 models. Drivers can also upgrade their XT6 with optional safety features like Night Vision and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The XT6 Premium Luxury and Sport trim packages include the Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert system.
