Cadillac's 6.2-liter V8 engine, which powers the automaker's new DPi-V.R prototype racer, has just claimed victory at the 2017 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The powertrain carried the Cadillac racer to the finish line at the annual competition, which showcases up-and-coming technology on new car concepts. The displacement's 600 horsepower and 7,600 rpm are among the max outputs allowed for engines at the IMSA Championship, highlighting exactly why it blew away others on the track.

Available on the CTS-V and Escalade

The racing-version of the V8 engine is a cousin of the powertrain that is available on both the Cadillac CTS-V and the iconic Escalade SUV.

The amount of power that these cars produce is exactly why the automaker participates in competitions like the IMSA Championships, testing out prototypes that will hopefully give Cadillac customers the power and precision they crave out of a luxury automobile.

Cadillac V8 Engine

"As in the Cadillac CTS-V and Escalade, the Cadillac 6.2L V-8 in the race car produces unrivaled, unfailing power and responsiveness," said Richard Brekus, Cadillac Global Director of Product Strategy. "This season we exchanged engines only once for each car, each receiving a fresh engine after the Rolex 24 At Daytona. We disassembled the first engines and found no issues, problems or anomalies after the Rolex 24."
